Johannes H. van der Brug was born out of wedlock to Jurrendina Jansen. At his birth his name was
recorded as Johannes Jansen because his father was not registered or named on the birth certificate
and thus remains unknown to this day. Upon the marriage of his mother to Harmen van der Brug, he
was officially adopted by Harmen van der Brug and his surname was legally changed from Jansen to
van der Brug. No one knows whether Johannes ever knew the name of his birth
